Oculoplastics also is known as Ocular Plastic Surgery, is the surgical sub-specialty of Ophthalmology dedicated to the study and surgical treatment of deformities or abnormalities of the eyelids, lacrimal ducts, orbit (cavity where the eye is situated) and adjacent tissues. These alterations are caused by normal aging or by traumas and diseases such as tumors that can alter the normal anatomy.
The oculoplastic surgeon is responsible for numerous surgical procedures related to a malposition of the eyelids, drooping of the eyelids, problems with the eyelashes; Eyelid, lacrimal and orbit tumors, as well as non-surgical aesthetic procedures, such as Botulinum Toxin (Botox), fillers, platelet-rich plasma, and facial peeling.
